Trimming Back The Trees & Hedges Along The Wall

The forecast for the next 14 days is looking dry clear days and getting hotter again, Personally I could do with a little more overcast and cloudy days as I need to keep out of the sun and wear factor 50+ sun block on my arms which are still very very brown and of course the Winnie the Poo hat to protect my head and face.

Today I attacked the hedgerow adjacent to my plot entrance and pushed it back so that when I need to back the car up to my plot to unload equipment or materials I can. The photo above is before I touched it.

Iderde are supposed to trim this but they never have, its always the wrong time of year or we can't because birds will be nesting etc. I cut it back two years ago before I got cancer so that I could back my car up to my plot entrance to unload compost sacks. it has encroached out into the main path again and even over and onto the potting shed roof.

Hedge and trees along the wall from the entrance to plot 1 after trimming. The overhand has been trimmed so the sit on mower can get nearer the Hawthorn and brambles and cut the grass, because the guy with the trimmed never cuts into this area it looks a mess.

More trimming needs to be done but it's a good start. I was told to leave the loose cutting on the grass as the lawn mower will mulch it up and throw it under the hedge.

I took the opportunity of the second visit of the day, to clear up some of the hedge and trees that I cut back this morning and stacked the cut up branches against the wall.

Water Butt and Stand won off Freecycle and picked up from a very nice guy called Rob in Cheam and taken to the allotment in the afternoon. it matches one I already have on one of the Palram greenhouses.

I created three drills in the SFG Bed 2 and installed 6 number 500ml diet coke bottles that have had their bottom removed and holes drilled in the cap, neck and body of the bottle such that it leaks like a sieve and will water the soil for the depth of the bottle which when installed is approx. 180mm or 7 inches.
