Sowing In Bed 15 Part 2

20C Overcast and a little windy this morning with storm Floris bearing down on the UK, so a swift visit to the allotment this morning as rain anticipated this afternoon down south.

My main objective today was to harvest plums from the over abundant, tree on a neighbours plot who has had her fill and invited other plot holders to indulge and to sow the remaining 1/3 of bed 15 with carrots.

Bed 15 Debris netting pulled back to access the 1/3 of the bed that has not been sowed yet

Drills or furrows, marked in the soil with the planting rule I made 12 years ago and then with my fingers, ready for sowing. I love touching the earth with my hands.

3 rows of Royal Chantenay 3 sown in the drills, using a repurpose seasoning container is ideal for handling seeds especially when you have rheumatism in your hands. My hands are so much better since I have been on the steroids over the last couple of months.

Coffee ground that have been drying in the plotting shed chopped up to be used as fertiliser and slug prevention between drills.

Crushed Egg shells added for nutriments to the soil and as a slug preventer the the whole bed was then watered. The Gully feeder pipes water also filled a couple of times to water at depth.

Then the debris netting was fixed back to the hoops with spring clips as storm Floris will be with us later today in the South East, if the weather forecast is to be believed.

Some Crimson Cherry tomatoes starting to turn orange.

Crimson Plum tomatoes spotted turning orange yesterday a little redder today, when watering the bed.
