Guardsman Spring Onions - Mr Fothergill's - 350 Seeds - £2.55 - item Code 17058 - Sow By 2025
I've not grown this variety before, and they have been added to Mr Fothergill's catalogue for 2023, so I'm giving them a trial next year.
British-bred, vigorous salad onions with strong upright leaves and a supreme, non-pungent flavour.
Slow to bulb, perfect for summer crops in the vegetable garden or in pots of compost on the patio.
Outdoors: sow thinly, March-September, where they are to crop, 15mm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-dug, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 150mm (6") between rows.
Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days.
No thinning is required, but keep well watered in dry spells. Regular sowings, made every three weeks, will ensure a continuous supply through the summer.
Harvest: March-October. August to September sowings will be ready the following spring.
