Organic Gardening Seeds - Sorrel ‘Bloody Dock’

Organic Gardening Seeds have sent me a pack of Sorrel ‘Bloody Dock’ which they have added to their catalogue for 2024 and sells for £2.99 a pack that contains an average of 200 Seeds

is one of the most attractive perennial herbs you can grow, with brilliant red veining on long, dark green leaves. It adds a fresh taste to salads, almost like a sharp, green apple with a citrus note, that works well with oil-based dressings in salads.

  • Attractive herb with red veined leaves.
  • Treat as a cut-and-come-again leaf.
  • Highly ornamental and great for edging veg beds

Widely used in French cuisine, young sorrel leaves are also particularly flavoursome in fish dishes, soups, stews and sauces.

Grow this hardy perennial herb as an annual for its colourful foliage that looks equally at home dotted throughout the front of ornamental borders as in the herb garden and vegetable plot.

Height and spread: 35cm (14in).

The Sowing and Harvesting graphic from the web site do not tie up with what's on the package which says Sow March to May and Harvest July to November.

Sowing Instructions

Grow seeds in a well prepared, moist, seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2 inch) In drills 30cm (12") apart.

Aftercare Instructions

When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 15cm apart. Fortnightly sowings of sorrel will ensure an ongoing supply of young sorrel leaves for adding to salads.
