Potting On Aztek Tomatoes

An afternoon on the allotment potting on Aztek Tomatoes which are Micro Dwarf and only grow to between 250mm - 300mm tall, in order to do a Dalefoot Composts V Westland Horticulture Tomato Compost head to head.

Aztek micro dwarf tomatoes that were grown at home on the window ledge, specifically to run the head to head experiment. I did this a few years ago see http://cadalot-allotment.blogspot.com/2021/07/dalefoot-v-westland-compost.html

Eight pairs of tomato plants that are at similar stages in development have been potted up into vending machine cups that have had two holes melted in the bottom for drainage.

These micro dwarf tomatoes will finally be potted up into 125mm pots of the companies compost and we will see which compost produces the healthiest looking plants, and will look at the yield difference.

First pair selected

Westland BIG TOM compost on the left and the Dalefoot Tomato Compost with added comfrey on the right. The westland compost is much lumpier and had quite a lot of un-composted material still in it, and had to be chopped up. The Dalefoot Tomato compost was so fine and a nice consistency with little lumps and zero un-composted matter.

Left of the tool as from the bag and to the right after I had chopped up the lumps.

Another look at the composts westland on the left and Dalfoot on the right.

Both tomatoes received the same amount of water and were allowed to stay in the saucer with the excess until the next pair were ready.

Third set for comparison
