Planning and Reviewing April in Previous Years

Reviewing the diary over the last four years for April

2013 - After Burning everything that could be burnt in March, I finally started digging and weeding the first beds on Mill Green Allotment. 

2014 - Potatoes in buckets, Potatoes in the ground, Sowing Tomatoes, Beetroots, Spring Onions, weeding and fertilising beds, potting on tomatoes into vending machine cups.      

2015 -  New edging to beds, Planting potatoes in buckets, Potatoes in the ground, Brassicas into vending machine cups, Sowing Tomatoes,  

2016 - Daffs in Comfrey bed 1, Digging and weeding new beds, Freecycle Slabs, planting Potatoes

As one expects there are items that are common to the month, it's interesting looking back at the work on my first plot and comparing that with the second. Most certainly having a plot to deal with has meant that the progress on the second plot has not been so swift.

Below is the to do list in no particular order and catching up with what actually happened in March and what has slipped

Spencer Road

• As much infrastructure works as the weather will allow - Ongoing
• Raise the paving for the greenhouse- Ongoing
• Erect the greenhouse - It didn't happen due to my wife being ill.
• Weed the area and create Beds 6 & 8 for the onions - bed 6 in place, onion due for bed 8 now in Bed 3 and Bed 8 will now take spring onions.
• Make another 2.4m x 1.2m Onion Planting Membrane - Done
• Make Walking Onion raised bed frames. Bed 1 completed, Bed 2 need to be done in the next couple of weeks
• Prepare Asparagus Bed - Missed the opportunity and now a job for next year.
• Make a decision about if to have permanent beds behind the fruit cages
• Dig up Rhubarb from Maggie's plot
• Sow Potatoes

Mill Green

• Tidy Up the Allotment - Ongoing
• Clear The Greenhouse - Ongoing and nearly done 
• Hoop Cages and Netting for Onions from Mill Green to Spencer Road - Not Yet but blue pipe obtained .
• Drain and Move Nettle Water Butt to Spencer Road - Not Yet
• Install hoop eyes and training wires for trees - Not Yet 
• Prepare Cauliflower Beds
• Warm Up Carrot Bed
• Trim the grapevine Back - Way overdue
• Sow Potatoes in Buckets
• Sow Potatoes in the ground

Home

• Clear the crap out of the sheds - Started one done
• Sow all the seeds Listed Here

Reminders

• Already stocked up with coir for 2017, but I will need to replenish for 2018 - Started
• Check condition of saved seed potatoes in the shed after heavy frost - Done
• Purchase vent opener for new greenhouse.- Not Yet
